Staff - Drilling & Operations Manager

One of the most exciting positions this year so far. A key client of Prodrill's are now in the market looking to recruit a Drilling & Operations Manager on a full time Staff basis. The client is a UK based Exploration & Production company with Operations both in the UKCS as well as key International locations. This is a senior position within the organisation, reporting directly to the Head of Wells and shall be responsible for a small team of staff, consultants and contractors all pulling together to achieve collaborative goals. As the name suggests this is an Operations focused role and as such applications are only being considered from hands on operationally focused individuals. You shall need to demonstrate offshore and onshore operational knowledge, skills and commercial decision making. You must also have operational knowledge of Deepwater drilling operations gained from several projects on both a UK as well as International arena. As the company has many operations in International waters - it is also vital that you have either lived and or worked Internationally and been exposed to issues such as local logistics, regulations, laws, taxes, diversity of cultures with personnel. Brief outline of Duties:- The Drilling and Operations Manager will be responsible for ensuring: Operations are conducted in accordance with policies/standards and within relevant permit/regularity requirements All well objectives (E&A or D&P objectives including formation evaluation, well integrity, HSSE objectives, cost and schedule are achieved versus planned/budget) are met and improve performance against the “Operational Excellence” component of KPIs Technical and operational integrity of well construction activities in both planning and execution phases Operational and cost reporting on a timely and regular basis HSE standards and performance are maintained and enhanced All key lessons learnt are captured, documented and applied in future projects Principal areas of responsibility include: Identifying the organisational requirements and project team members/ competencies required to deliver the agreed drilling programmes which includes managing the recruitment/contracting processes in line with the operating model Working with the Head of Wells on drilling management systems, assurance, risk profiling, process and strategy Maintaining and developing policies, procedures, standards, and guidelines as required. Understanding of the Well Engineering & Construction Management system Providing HSE leadership through pro-actively implementing and reviewing adherence to the Group Corporate Responsibility Management System Leading Well Engineering projects (planning and execution) in accordance with Company standards, procedures and project governance requirements, to meet the well objectives. Areas to be covered include, but are not limited to: health, safety and environmental management rig acquisition, including identification, contracting and intake well integrity and well engineering design well planning project delivery operations management and supervision including well control situations and/or operational emergencies project risk management emergency response well cost management including well estimates, monitoring and reporting rig and services contract management marine & aviation support shore base establishment and management logistics & materials management input to regulatory approvals Managing the provision of accurate and up-to-date project data and cost information to meet corporate requirements (i.e. Business Plans, Work Programmes & Budgets, Annual Reports, Risk Registers, etc.) Recruiting, developing, training and coaching technical and support staff, particularly in the well engineering function Seeking continuous improvement through transfer of best practice/lessons learnt between assets Monitoring and adopting appropriate industry developments in well construction Member of Emergency Response Team (ERT) – requiring periods of 24x7 on call Supporting and, where appropriate, leading initiatives to gain and maintain Operatorship in line with corporate, regulatory and external requirements EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS REQUIRED Education: Educated to degree-level in mechanical engineering or other engineering discipline, or highly qualified by operational experience Valid well-control certificate, up to date BOSIET/HUET certifications and H2S Safety Awareness Training, with membership expected of an appropriate professional body (e.g. SPE) Relevant Experience / Skills: Vital to demonstrate relevant international drilling and operations (including deep-water) experience. Lived and worked overseas to understand local issues and challenges as outlined above Experience within an upstream Oil & Gas international operations role and ability to effectively operate at a strategic and operational level Experience in drilling and operations project management with hands-on experience of directly project managing several drilling programmes in harsh and challenging environments Knowledge and understanding of the challenges of working in frontier regions and/or harsh environments Demonstrable track record of delivering first-class HSE, drilling and team performance and cost control in offshore, onshore and deep water drilling projects Knowledge of HSE and risk management with a focus on planning and operational execution; Sound understanding in other technical functions such as petroleum engineering, operations geology, petrophysics and logistics is expected.
