Aker BP cleared to drill North Sea well

Apr 11, 2017

Norway’s offshore safety watchdog has cleared Aker BP to drill an exploration well in the North Sea.

The Petroleum Safety Authority said Aker BP could use the Island Innovator rig to drill a well on the Frigg Gamma Delta prospect, about 20 kilometres east of the Frigg field.

Aker BP wants to drill a well down to 1,180 metres to disprove the possible existence of shallow gas or water zones where the wells are to be drilled.

Drilling is expected to last five days.

Island Innovator is owned and operated by Odfjell Drilling and was built at the Cosco Zhoushan shipyard in China in 2012.

Aker BP was established in September following the merger of Det norske oljeselskap and BP Norge.
