Like manyof you, I watched Wednesday’s budget with interest in respect of the‘off-payroll’ rules to the private sector.

I am pleased that the government has recognised the need to "carefully" consult on
how to tackle non-compliance with IR35 in the private sector. Organisations such as APSCo lobbied back bench rebels and the Treasury, and their survey results have been widely shared, and the government has stepped
back from the brink of introducing any rushed or hasty extension of the off-payroll rules.

Thegovernment will carefully consult on how to tackle perceived non-compliance inthe private sector during 2018, drawing on the experience of the public-sectorreforms, including through external research already commissioned by thegovernment and due to be published next year.

Whist there are no immediate changes, there is a clear indication that the direction of travel is towards some form of extension of the off-payroll reporting rules to include the private sector.
