Marathon submits Brae decommissioning plans

Jun 21, 2017

Marathon Oil submitted a draft of its decommissioning plans for the Brae Area to the UK Government today.

Houston-headquartered Marathon began initial planning and evaluation of decommissioning the Brae Area facilities in 2009.

The Brae Area facilities are located about 170miles north-east of Aberdeen.

Brae consists of three fixed jacket platforms, three subsea tie-backs as well as pipelines and subsea components.

The Brae Alpha platform started producing in 1983, followed by Brae Bravo in 1988 and East Brae in 1993.

Hydrocarbons are exported via the Marathon-operated Brae-Forties pipeline to the Forties Pipeline System and then onwards to Kinneill for processing.

Cessation of production (CoP) on Brae Bravo is expected in 2018.

CoP on the other two platforms will take place after Bravo.

Interested parties have until July 24 to provide feedback on the proposals, according to a notice in the Press and Journal.
